F. CLARKE HOLMES, M.D.
SPORTS MEDICINE CARE IN NASHVILLE
Dr. Holmes is a board-certified sports medicine physician who has made his mark on Nashville since moving here in 2009. Prior to his move, he served as the Director of Sports Medicine at Georgetown University in Washington, DC for over three years. From 2003 to 2006, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and a key member of the University Sports Medicine team.
He completed his sports medicine fellowship in 2002 at Ball Memorial/Central Indiana Sports Medicine. Prior to fellowship, his completed residency at Tallahassee (FL) Memorial Health Care, and was one of two residents to serve as chief resident during his final year.
Dr. Holmes graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine cum laude in 1998 and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society granted to those graduating near the top of their medical school class. Dr. Holmes obtained his undergraduate degree from Ole Miss, graduating summa cum laude and was named “Marshall” of the class of Liberal Arts.
Dr. Holmes’ passion for athletics and sports medicine acumen has allowed him to serve as a team physician or consultant to numerous athletic teams and performing artist organizations over the past 20 years. His athletes have ranged from the high school to the professional ranks, and he has several dozen former patients currently competing in the NFL, NBA and major league baseball.
He has received a plethora of awards over the past two decades, including being named the “Top Sports Medicine Specialist" in the nation by HealthTap.com for the winter of 2013, spring and fall of 2017 . In 2017, 2018, 2020 and again in 2024, he was named one of the top 3 orthopedic physicians in a Nashville Fit magazine survey. He also received “Patient’s Choice” and "Compassionate Doctor" awards in 2011-2014, 2016-2018 and 2020. He has also been named as a Vitals Top Ten Sports Medicine Specialist in Tennessee. Twice during residency, Dr. Holmes was named “Teacher of the Year.”
Dr. Holmes resides in Nashville with his wife, Christie and two college-age children, Alex and Ella Kate. His primary hobby is spending time with his family, and he also greatly enjoys attending sporting events, hiking, live music, reading fiction and traveling.
